Mom Shot #17: Hands On

What is this picture, you ask? Well, it's proof of two things:

1) My two year old pushed me away today when I gently touched his hair while talking to him. Emotional OUCH!
2) I need to clean his hands and take him out of his high chair before he starts painting with his yogurt.

(What a perfect print, ah?)

There will come a time when your cuddly little baby will actually physically push you away. It leaves a print, sure. But remember, it's nothing that can't get washed out. Think of it as a little yogurt smear and don't harp on it. Start anew tomorrow :)

Mom Shot #15: What if the grass actually IS greener?

I thought this was a pretty funny view of my backyard.

You see, around here, the grass actually is greener on the other side.

And yet, even though it's not just a matter of mentality - even when there is real vines and flowers growing on someone else's patch of land - we STILL must find the beauty in our soil.

Here's to all the LadyMamas who find themselves looking in someone else's yard. So what if theirs is greener? Your yard is still your yard - that aint changin'.

Now just go turn the sprinklers on.

Mom Shot #14: You CAN always get what you want

He was screaming "miiiiiiiilk, miiiiiiilk!" for quite some time, but I was determined to have him sit and eat the cheerios, too.

But he was more determined. He actually handpicked every single cheerio out of the bowl and then downed the milk. Exactly what he wanted.

Point taken, kid.

Listen up, parents. Our children are resilient and, as frustrating as that is (and I mean reeeaallly frustrating), acknowledge their inventiveness. They know exactly how to get what they want from life, and no one - not even mommy - will stand in the way.

Cheerio! ;)

Mom Shot #13: Stroller Envy

When I found this gorgeous Stokke parked right in front of my Uppa the other day, I had to stop and check it out up close. It's a stroller that always grabs my attention because of its sleek structure, high seat and overall modern (almost futuristic) design.
It kinda makes me feel like my stroller is mediocre, even though I chose it from tons of research and, well, the trend.
The names of these strollers lend themselves to a very real lesson: something will always UP(ppa) our choices and put us to shame no matter how STOK(ke)D we were about out own decision ;)
And the truth is, in the end we're all the same in that we paid way, way too much.

Mom Shot #12: Look Around

I remember when my son first saw Elmo off-screen. He literally stood there staring at this Elmo doll, his mouth dropped, finger pointing, with an audible, breathy "huuuuuughhhh!"

Have you ever been shocked to find your favorite friend/food/movie/store in an odd place? We can learn from our children - everything we love is all around us. We just have to open our eyes!

Mom Shot #11: Size doesn't matter

Here are two of my sons current favorites, which I make sure to set aside when I clean up his toys. If this were real life, this dog would be considered obese, the horse anorexic. It's a good thing that when it comes to our kids, size - and realistic proportions! - is a non issue!

Mom Shot #10: Lunch Beginnings

"Mom Shots" are Mimi Hecht's captured homemade moments: random photographs
and musings from her life as a stay-at-home and work-from-home mom!
[See previous Mom Shots here!]

It's pretty sad that this week marked the first time I sent my dear husband off to work with a real lunch. And I wouldn't even call it "real." A sandwich, some leftover potato salad, veggie-chips, two tangerines, string cheese, crackers, raisins....as if he's in elementary school! Alas, this was prepared on one of those need-to-go-grocery-shopping-desperately days, so I'm not beating myself up. And at least the man didn't come home STARVING. And yes, I inspected the remaining contents fervently upon his arrival!

I was really taken aback by how good it felt to do something kind for my husband. I hope I can keep it up....you know, occasionally! :)

Mom Shot #9: The Scene of the Crime

Mimi Hecht's captured homemade moments: random photographs and
musings from her life as a stay-at-home and work-from-home mom!
[See previous Mom Shots here!]

As if it weren't obvious enough, my tot left some pretty conclusive evidence at the scene of "Operation Wreck Mommy's Drawer." Look closely...do you see it?

You gotta laugh when you discover the result of harmless toddler exploration! Be happy that your kid is active and curious. And then clean it up so they can start all over again!

Mom Shot #8: Snowmageddon!

It all started just over a week ago and yet, still, the streets aren't so stroller-friendly and the garbage is piled high! Good thing the jammed cars and constant shoveling outside has provided non-stop entertainment for my trapped tot!

Mom Shot # 7: Find them, already!

In Mom Shot #6, we spoke about making do and "scoring" with
what you've been given (aka, a sippy cup!). After I found this (above), I'm
updating that life lesson to "It's time to get on all fours and find those basketballs!"

Mom Shot #6: A Perfect Score

Don't let anything stop you from scoring in life. Even when you can't find your basketballs.

A life lesson brought to you by my slam-dunk-loving and sippy-cup-toting son.

-------

[Btw, I HIGHLY recommend this amazing Little Tykes Little Champ Sports Center for your baby/toddler. It lights up and keeps score - and there's even the sound of applause! Such a feeling of accomplishment! My amazing mother got it for us months ago, and he's been non-stop entertained by it ever since...as you can see! - Mimi]

Mom Shot #5: Tis the Season!

My son sure knows how to spin some Chanukah "seasoning" into his rice!

Happy Chanukah, LadyMamas!

Mom Shot #4: Beautiful Blur

As moms, we try to tap into every minute of mothering. But don't guilt yourself when life is a whirl and you're feeling muddy-brained. After all, even the fuzzy moments are precious!

Mom Shot #3: Original Recipe

Some kids PLAY with pots and pans. And then there's my son. Today's special: Makeup brush a la Mr. Potato Head's nose!

Mom Shot #2: Mommy needs one, too!

Clipping my son's nails and hard not to notice my chipping nail polish. Time to make a manicure date for mommy, too!

Mom Shot #1: Feet Up!

Welcome to the first of what will be many of my captured homemade moments: random photographs and musings from my life as a stay-at-home and work-from-home mom!
This picture says two things:
1) Life at home can be just as busy as the workplace! Make sure to take some rest-stops and recharge!
2) Relish the fact that, at home, you can wear the most hideous shoe apparel and no one is there to criticize your choice of comfort over style!
