Dear Baby Belly: A Letter To My Not-So-Postpartum Stomach Flab

I have an army of friends and family that have accepted your presence on their own perfectly traumatized bodies. And, you hear me, we still look frikkin' awesome.

DEAR BABY BELLY
A Letter to my Not-So-Postpartum Stomach Flab

Dear Baby Belly,

It's been over a year since giving birth, so I figured it was high time you and I had a little talk.

Oh, stomach flab...

I'd ask how you are, but I know the answer. You're just hanging around, enjoying life. Laughing as you watch me change outfits a million times because nothing can hide you well enough to convince people that I am back to my pre-baby body. I know you've been through a lot—you have ballooned, stretched and become super firm, only to fall to the force of gravity in a less than complimented world of postpartum body image. But seriously, I am the one that has to wear you!

And its annoying because I actually lost my baby weight. But you, baby bump, must still linger. You need everyone to know that my body has birthed. You need to make clear that the high waisted skirt look will always be conquered by those that have yet to make the foray into frump.

A Political Image

A POLITICAL IMAGE
Gillard and the Milan Fall Collection

Clothes send a message- often by not sending the right one. They reflect our roles, positions and, yes, certain aspects of our religiosity...

Historic moments were created these past few weeks in the realm of Australian politics, when Julia Gillard, leader of the Australian Labour Party (ALP), became our first ever female prime minister. Yes, I know, it’s hard to believe we down here in the land of surf and sun have a life beyond those picturesque barbeques and complementary cricket matches.
In fact, not only do we have a political system, we also have the next best thing: the Media, who were quick to jump on the bandwagon of reprimanding Gillard’s sense of dress and style within hours of her ascent to power.

Are Heels Only For Mommies?

[When is it fitting for our daughters to start wearing heels?]

Suri Cruise, the three-year-old daughter of celebrities Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, attracted media attention last week when she was spotted wearing high heels. While shoe lines carrying all styles of heels and platforms for little girls have sprouted up over the past few years, there’s nothing like a celebrity to push a fad over the edge and fashion-forward mothers are now scrambling for the perfect heels for their tiny tots.

But many parents are divided as to whether the added inches are appropriate for their little ones, complaining that heels should be strictly "mommies only."

I haven’t yet made up my mind about this; I’m simply getting a kick (yes, pun intended) out of the debate. It does seem to me that, in an age when mature trends – in the form of books, movies and more - are aging our children too quickly, little girls wearing heels may be the most innocent. But then again, any honest woman knows the agenda of a good pair of heels – the confident, straight walk it produces can only be described as “sexy.”

Is it simply “girly” and “cute” for little girls to wear heels? Or will it turn them into mature ladies too quickly? When is it fitting for our daughters to start wearing heels? What do YOU think?
